Since its founding in 1978, the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association has flourished into the leading minority bar association in New Mexico. The NMHBA Board of Directors is comprised of twenty-four voting members and a student member from the Mexican American Law Student Association at the University of New Mexico School of Law. Around three hundred attorneys and students are members of the NMHBA, coming from diverse backgrounds and areas of practice.
Our mission is to promote the education and development of Hispanic legal professionals. To do this, we provide our members with periodic network opportunities across the State and beyond, as well as continuing legal education opportunities. To ensure the continued entry of Hispanics into the legal profession, we also have several educational and mentorship initiatives, including our work with Atrisco Heritage Academy students in the South Valley of Albuquerque; holding an annual Law Camp at UNM for kids from across New Mexico; and providing scholarships and mentorship to UNM law students.
